FAQ: How Do I Move a WiFi Camera to a Different Location?
When you first set up your WiFi hidden camera, you connect it to a WiFi network wherever the camera is placed. For example, if you’re setting up the camera in your home, you’d connect the camera to your home’s WiFi network. This allows you to live stream your video and watch it from anywhere.
But what if you want to set the camera up somewhere (like your home), then move it to another location (like a new home, or a totally different location)?
To do this, you’ll need to reset the camera back to the factory settings, and set it up with a new WiFi network at the new location.
Reset the Camera to Factory Defaults
The factory reset process is slightly different for each device, so refer to the included user manual that came with your camera. If you don’t have your user manual handy, we have many of our manuals available online here.
The general process for resetting your camera back to defaults is basically this:
- Plug the camera into AC power
- Wait 2-3 minutes for the camera to boot up and fully initialize
- Locate the reset button on the camera, and press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds
Depending on the camera model, the LED lights may go out and then come back on. If the camera has a display, the display may turn off, then turn back on. Devices with a built in speaker may play a chime to let you know the reset process has started.
Delete the Camera from App
Once your camera has been completely reset, the next step is to open the app for your camera, and locate the camera in the device list. You’ll then swipe left and click the Delete button, or press and hold until a delete button appears.
This will delete the camera from the app.
Note: You do not need to delete the app itself from your phone, just the camera from the device list.
Take Camera to New Location and Set Up
Now that you’ve reset the camera back to the factory defaults, and removed the camera from the device list in the app, everything is ready to set up again.
Take your WiFi camera to the new location, and refer to the user manual to set the camera up from the beginning again. This will set up and connect the camera to a new WiFi network at the new location.
